ABANITU ORGANICS Press Releases and General Updates…

INTRODUCTION TO ORGANIC GARDENING

A workshop will be presented by PCC’s Business Development & Entrepreneurship Center and Abanitu Organics.  This two part program will begin with classroom instruction Thursday February 26th from 6-9 pm. The second part will be a demonstration at Abanitu Organics farm on Saturday February 28th from 1-4 pm.

The cost is just $25 per person.

Topics covered in this comprehensive workshop will include successful organic gardening techniques such as planning, soil preparation, planting strategies, fertilization, composting, pest and weed control, and others.

Abanitu means `from the heart of God’, and is a beautiful farm located in northern Person County near Roxboro. Their farming practices are strictly organic, with soil health and fertility being a central focus. Soil re-mineralization and no-till soil preparation in a raised bed, perma-culture model farm eco-system is a key to their approach.

Because of their mission to provide wholesome food that is fresh and local, and to maximize nourishment and flavor, they use organic seed from open-pollinated, mostly heirloom plants.  Some of features that you will during the farm demonstration are; a greenhouse constructed of straw bale and cob, permanent raised beds edged in stone for vegetable production, an inexpensive hoop house (high tunnel), mushroom logs, beehives, compost piles, a fruit and nut orchard and plantings of grapes, blueberries, blackberries, and figs.

This will be a fun and informative program that is just in time to help you get started on your own garden this year.
